FAQ’s

What if I have a steering column LOCK?
Locking steering columns are managed in two ways: 1) Mechanically, usually with a spring loaded pin that locks the wheel when the keyed ignition is in off, and 2) Electronically with a Solenoid. Depending on your level of mechanical ability, you can remove the mechanical column lock. If the car uses an electric solenoid to lock, it is possible to control it with StarDrive. Or you could simply leave the key in the factory ignition, in the unlock position. You may even choose to cut off the head of the key, leaving only the keyed shaft in the ignition, covering it with push start button or cover.  If you are not comfortable doing this, check with a body shop, custom car builder, or alarm installation shop as they may be able to help. Additionally, you can install a column with no key or lock.

What if I have a Smart Key?
Newer vehicles have some type of  “smart key” as part of a factory immobilizer system. If your vehicle has one of these systems this will need to be addressed for StarDrive to work. This is also a common issue when installing a Remote Start system with a “smart key”. Any Alarm installation shop will be familiar with what is necessary for bypassing your vehicles “smart key” system.

Typically this is done by fooling the factory system that reads it, by installing  a “Key Bypass Module”, it will make the factory immobilizer system work with StarDrive.

What if I want to turn on Accessories or Ignition without starting the engine?
You can turn on “only Accessories” by pushing the Start Button without using the foot brake. You can turn on “only Ignition” by pushing the Start Button a second time without using the foot brake.

This will bypass the “Start mode”. When you’re ready to start the engine, place your foot on the brake and push the start button.

How hard is StarDrive to install?
Depending on the location of the Start Button and how the steering column lock is involved, installing StarDrive can be compared to installing a remote start alarm system.

Professional installation is recommended.

What else will I need to install the system in my vehicle?
If your car has a “smart key” factory immobilizer system you will likely require a Security Bypass module. This module allows the vehicle to start without a key being in the ignition and is a common accessory also used for installation of Remote Start. Bypass Modules are available online and are stocked by most all alarm shops.

Can I use my own custom button with StarDrive?
Yes, Any N/O Momentary switch can be used with StarDrive.

Will the system also let me remotely open my trunk?
Yes,  StarDrive has a dedicated trunk button that when pressed controls a internal relay that remotely operates the trunk.

What happens if I lose my remote?
If you ever lose or damage your remote, you can always access and start your vehicle by using your backup fob.

Does the Vehicle shut off when I walk away?
No, once the engine is started the vehicle will not shut off until it is physically turned off.
